Song of the Cicadas   

A rainbow shifts

its colors

in the afternoon heat.

And among the branches,

she tunes her kettledrums.

The leaves of the trees

wait patiently.

And within the amphitheater

of the branches,

she prepares her concert.

The time spent underground

which hardly feels like time at all

awakens her from her metamorphosis.

And after 17 years,

high up in the tree,

at last, she stridulates her song.

While the clouds drift by

and the ants go into hiding.

Canción de las cigarras

Un arcoíris va

mutando sus colores

en el calor de la tarde.

Y entre las ramas,

ella afina sus timbales.

las hojas de los árboles

esperan pacientes.

Y entre el anfiteatro 

de las ramas 

ella prepara su concierto.

El tiempo que bajo la tierra

no parece tiempo,

la despierta de su metamorfosis.

Y después de 17 años,

en lo alto del árbol,

por fin, estridula su canción.

Mientras pasan las nubes 

y las hormigas se esconden.

蝉之歌

午后的酷热中，

一道彩虹

变幻着色彩。

而在枝叶间，

她正调校着她的“定音鼓”。

树叶

耐心地等待着。

在这由枝条构成的

露天剧场里，

她正筹备着一场音乐会。

那段深埋地下的时光

仿佛根本算不上是时间

唤醒了正在蜕变的她。

十七载岁月已过，

她栖身于高高的树梢，

终于，振翅鸣唱出她的歌。

云朵在天边飘移，

蚂蚁则纷纷躲藏起来。

蝉の歌

午後の熱気の中、

虹がその色を

移ろわせる。

そして梢（こずえ）のあわいで、

彼女はティンパニの調律を始める。

木々の葉は

じっと静かに待ちわびる。

枝々が形作る

円形劇場の中で、

彼女はコンサートの準備を整える。

地中で過ごした時間

それはもはや、時間と呼べるものかどうかも定かではないが

その長い眠りから、彼女は変態を経て目覚める。

17年の時を経て、

高い梢の上で、

ついに彼女は、その調べを奏でる。

雲が流れゆく中、

そして蟻たちが身を隠す中。
