With the eye inside

With the eye inside

In front of a mirror
I see myself skeptically
and I think that I am not a reflection
I am not that –I believe--

that is in front of the mirror
Maybe behind it
I am somewhere else
watching the restless universe

Tireless and eternal
in perpetual movement
expanding and falling back
through the curve of least effort

With insect eyes
because the ones I have are of no use
to detect the movement
of what seems to be still

I believe that vice and foolishness
Stupidity and desire
cannot be detected
with external eyes

You have to use internal ones
You have to study history
and distill the moral
from its boring tale
